Fashion and Style/ Dark Angels.

Fashion and Style show March 23, 2007 Dark Angels. Alvin Valley's Fall collection was early aviatrix Harriet Quimby, who in 1911 became the first woman to receive a pilot's license. Hence, the show's emphasis on trousers. The wide-legged, corset-waist wool versions Valley paired with an acid-yellow bodysuit were most flattering, far more so than the derriere-flattening narrow-fit ones.Corsets were a dominant trend everywhere, whether amping up the sexy quotient of Monarchy designer Eric Kim's preppy-punk looks providing a streamlined silhouette for Kevan Hall's elegant gowns. His show also featured an aviation theme: "the urban jet set." Gliding down a runway painted with a landing strip, the models wore glittery jewel-tone dresses in silk chiffon, taffeta, satin, and tulle. The best of these, an obsidian-gray chiffon gown with chinchilla sleeves and a plunging neckline, evoked Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly, and earned Hall, whose fans included Garcelle Beauvais, Tisha Campbell, and Hayden Panettiere, one of the week's few standing ovations.
